Brisbane, Australia · October 2026
Australian businesses implementing new anti-money laundering obligations have a new identity-verification provider to consider, with the launch of Brisbane-founded VeroID.
The launch comes as businesses providing newly regulated services across conveyancing, legal, accounting, real estate and other sectors put customer due diligence requirements into everyday practice under Australia's Tranche 2 reforms.
For affected businesses, the challenge extends beyond understanding the rules: they need workable processes for identifying customers and verifying their information while continuing to deliver their services.
VeroID is bringing a digital-first document-verification solution to that challenge, supporting the identity-verification component of Know Your Customer (KYC) processes. It is also working to make the capability available through integration with the software platforms businesses already use.
“Businesses need to translate their obligations into something staff can actually carry out during customer onboarding. Our focus is making the identity-verification step straightforward to implement and commercially practical, whether a business is evaluating a provider for its own operations or a software platform is incorporating verification for its customers.”
A costly quote sparked the alternative
VeroID began when founder Luke Ford needed identity verification for a lending platform he was developing. He received a quote that included an $8,000 onboarding fee, alongside ongoing charges and per-check costs.
The experience prompted him to build an alternative.
“I encountered the problem as a customer before tackling it as a developer. The upfront commitment made me question how we could make verification more accessible and integration more straightforward.”
Luke developed VeroID and is taking the business to market alongside his brother Jason, combining software engineering with enterprise growth and commercial experience.
As an approved gateway service provider, VeroID has a direct connection to the Document Verification Service, which is operated by the Australian Government. Businesses or government agencies can use this connection to verify a person's identity, with their express consent, against government-held records.
VeroID's API enables document verification to be incorporated into digital onboarding and business workflows, supported by developer documentation.
“Digital first should mean a practical implementation experience. The technology, documentation and onboarding need to work together so businesses understand how to get started and how verification fits into their processes.”
Serving businesses and their software providers
VeroID's commercial strategy addresses both businesses seeking a verification provider and platform companies looking to embed the capability into their products.
For businesses implementing KYC processes, VeroID supports the identity-verification step of customer onboarding. For platform providers, integration creates an opportunity to support that step within the systems their customers already use.
“Businesses want a credible alternative they can assess on service, implementation and commercial value. Platform providers want a solution that fits their product and helps their customers. We are building our proposition around both needs.”
Document verification forms part of a broader customer due diligence process. Businesses remain responsible for their applicable AML/CTF obligations, including risk assessment, other required checks, ongoing monitoring and reporting.
Both brothers are from Brisbane and serve as executive directors of VeroID. Luke's background includes LEAP Legal Software, the Australian Taxation Office and KPMG. Jason brings experience leading enterprise growth, strategic partnerships and workforce transformation across international markets.
VeroID is inviting businesses implementing or reviewing customer identity checks, and software providers exploring verification integrations, to discuss their requirements.
